Summer Holiday Activities 2023
Horsens Art Museum invites children and their adults to a series of summer holiday activities. The activities take place during weeks 26-32 within the museum’s opening hours.
Mask Workshop for Everyone (Weeks 26-32)
Throughout the summer holiday, Horsens Art Museum offers a free mask workshop for the whole family. In the workshop, you can create your own masks inspired by some of the museum’s artworks. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to make your very own masks using colored paper, feathers, sequins, and much more. The masks will be distributed at the museum’s counter.
The workshop is free after paid admission. Children and youth under 18 years old have free admission to Horsens Art Museum.
Find Me – Summer Holiday Activity at Horsens Art Museum (Weeks 26-32)
During the summer holiday, Horsens Art Museum invites children and their families to go on a face hunt throughout the museum’s current exhibitions. Several faces seem to have disappeared from some of the museum’s artworks. Find all the missing faces in the museum’s exhibitions and write down which artworks you can match them with. If you find all the missing faces, you’ll receive a lollipop at the museum’s counter. It’s possible to download the activity here.
The activity is free after paid admission. Children under 18 years old have free admission to Horsens Art Museum.
Art and Ice Cream
Tuesday, July 18th 2023, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM with Linda Højgaard Svendsen
During the summer holiday, Horsens Art Museum invites children and their families to Art and Ice Cream, where guide Linda Svendsen will give a guided tour of the museum’s exhibitions with a focus on children’s education. The event includes ice cream and beverages at the museum’s Café – Café Ella.
Practical information: Price is 60 DKK per participant for the guided tour and ice cream.
Tickets can be purchased here. Please note that the price does not include museum admission (60 DKK), which is paid on the day. Free admission for annual pass holders and friends association members.
Children up to 18 years old always have free admission to the museum. The ticket for the event will be provided on the day of attendance and does not need to be collected in advance.

In addition to the activities of the summer vacation, the museum also has a range of current exhibitions that can be experienced throughout the summer from week 26-32.

Last Light – Nick Theobald & Emil Westman Hertz

Horsens Art Museum presents a dialogue exhibition between American visual artist Nick Theobald (1986) and the late Danish visual artist Emil Westman Hertz (1978-2016). The exhibition draws upon the museum’s extensive collection of artworks by Emil Westman Hertz, with which Nick Theobald has engaged in a dialogue. The exhibition showcases works created by the two artists between 2011 and 2023.

Michael Kvium

The museum’s Michael Kvium collection is presented in new surroundings, featuring works that have been in storage for an extended period. Michael Kvium (1955) has established himself as one of Denmark’s most significant visual artists over the past 30 years. In his figurative and narrative visual universe, he delves into the corners of our culture, staging the grim and macabre, moral and physical decay.

Horsens Art Museum invites you to explore the exhibition Ceramics by visual Artists, featuring ceramic works created by visual artists spanning over 100 years, based on the collections of Horsens Art Museum.

The Golden Age seen in a new light

Horsens Art Museum presents an exhibition that sheds new light on the Golden Age through the museum’s collection of experimental contemporary art. The exhibition showcases old and new art juxtaposed in unexpected ways, aiming to highlight new ways of experiencing art and, most importantly, new interpretations of the artworks.

Comparisons
In this exhibition, artworks from the late 19th century up to the 1940s are juxtaposed with works from the museum’s collection of experimental contemporary art. The exhibition invites viewers to explore thematic and formal connections between newer and older art from the museum’s extensive collection. It demonstrates how artists have worked to combine different elements and themes in their works over the years.
