Let Everything Happen to You by Cathrine Raben Davidsen

Let Everything Happen to You is a retrospective exhibition by Cathrine Raben Davidsen’s artistry. Through a cross-section of the artist’s three most important periods –1995-1998,  2015-2017 and the present day – the exhibition shows a lesser-known and more personally rooted side of Cathrine Raben Davidsen’s work rounded off by experiences such as loss, the search for identity and transformation.

With Let Everything Happen to You, Cathrine Raben Davidsen mixes raw and evocative charcoal, oil and ink drawings with lavishly layered oil paintings in both small and large formats. The motifs range from intimate portraits (including two self-portraits) to abstract landscapes and mythological and religious narratives to figures in transformation from one state to another. Central is the person, the personal experience and the artistic processing thereof.

Cathrine Raben Davidsen (b. 1972, Copenhagen) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and before that studied at art academies in Italy and the Netherlands. Raben Davidsen has exhibited widely in Denmark and abroad, including creating extensive commissions, and her work is represented in numerous museum collections and institutions. She has been honored with numerous awards and scholarships and in 2015 she was appointed Knight of the Dannebrog by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe.
