One of the main interests in Lærke Lautas artistic career has been story telling. Story telling through film as in painting. In the exhibition Dissolve the visual artist presents paintings made with a new painting technique, resulting in more abstract looking motives and forms, different from what she has created earlier in her career. Some of the paintings illustrate specific narratives through a clear figurative look presented in a smaller scale. Where some of the larger scale paintings are more abstract, and the narrative is mainly left out. Characteristically for all of the paintings in the exhibition, is the artist’s ability to create a vibrant and transparent look, by using a powerful color palette.

Lærke Lauta created the paintings in the winter of 2019, when she worked at The Danish Art Workshops in Copenhagen. Earlier in Lærke Lautas career, she used the film media to tell stories; this is something she has then adapted in her paintings. The exhibitions large paintings are all titled Untitled. In the smaller paintings, the artist has chosen to zoom in on the stories being portrayed and then present fragments of these narratives in the larger scale paintings. The exhibitions smaller paintings are given titles such as: Contrasting Memories, Everything I know about you is nothing more than memories and Portrait of a Woman. All of these titles reflect the narrative portrayed in the paintings. Besides the paintings, a number of paintings will be exhibited next to textiles to compliment her picturesque artistic way of working.

Lærke Lauta (b. 1974) lives in Copenhagen, where she creates works of art in video, sculpture and painting. She is educated as a visual- and video artist from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, The Cooper Union in New York and Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam.
