Cathrine Raben Davidsen – collection hanging

In the autumn of 2023, Horsens Art Museum presents a larger collection display with works by Cathrine Raben Davidsen. Here it is possible to experience works such as Family from 1996, Jealosy (after Manet) from 2003, Poisoned Tongues from 2006, To Tell the Truth from 2009 and Dark Night IV  from 2016.

In Cathrine Raben Davidsen’s (b.1972) artistic practice, historical narratives and ancient traditions and mythological figures are united with the existential challenges and issues of modern man. Cathrine Raben Davidsen is in many ways a sampler of various visual and aesthetic expressions and well-known motifs from history’s most recognized artists and writers. Themes dealing with gender and identity are depicted with sensuality and materiality, which helps to invite the viewer into the work. Characteristic of her art, be it paintings, photographs, collages, ceramics, drawings or graphics, are depictions of people, often women, whose bodies are disintegrating or appear blurred and indistinct. What remains are the faces of the people clearly depicted, often made up and with a serious expression. Cathrine Raben Davidsen has a fascination with the people who have been passed over in history or who have not had a voice. With her works, she helps to give them the voice they never had.
