Ceramics

February 1 – August 9, 2023

Horsens Art Museum invites you inside the collection exhibition Ceramics based on ceramics in Horsens Art Museum’s collection. The exhibition presents ceramic works created by visual artists over more than 100 years, based on the collections of Horsens Art Museum.

Ceramics are not only archaeological pottery shards or functional art. Since 1880, when Danish artists such as Thorvald Bindesbøll, Th. Philipsen, and K. Hansen Reistrup, and later artists like Niels Hansen Jacobsen and J.F. Willumsen, ceramics have been not only functional art but also visual art.

One of the most famous works in the collection from these early years is J.F. Willumsen’s Family Vase from 1891. The sculpture, depicting a baby in full figure, serves as the starting point for the exhibition that Horsens Art Museum is now presenting, and the development continues up to our own time with newly acquired works by Danish artists such as Frederik Næblerød and Klara Lilja.

In the exhibition it will be possible to experience ceramic works created by artists  J. F. Willumsen, Gottfred Eickhoff, Niels Hansen Jacobsen, Jais Nielsen, Ib Braase, Frederik Næblerød, Klara Lilja, Lars Ravn, Camilla Thorup, Bente Thorsen, Peter Bonde, Adam Fischer, Rose Eken, Maria & Natalia Petschatnikow, Nils Erik Gjerdevik, Peter Carlsen, Eva Sørensen, Ursula Reuter, Bjørn Nørgaard, Erik A. Frandsen, Herman Kæhler, Kai Nielsen, Kirsten Ortwed, Lene Adler Petersen and Christian Lemmerz.

On the display, it will be possible to experience ceramic works created within the last 100 years of work.
