Kenosis by Cathrine Raben Davidsen
September 17 2016 – January 15 2017
Combined with some of Cathrine Raben Davidsen’s older paintings, the exhibition Kenosis mainly presents new paintings made by the artist. With the exhibition, the artist examines the human figure as a metaphor for transformation. The artworks lay in the intersection between figuration and abstraction – between painting and drawing. In Cathrine Raben Davidsen new artworks, she has worked with a new painting technique, where the composition is freer and the canvases are filled with layers of oil, ink, coal, bleach, pastel, pigment and acrylic. Fantasy and reality are mixed together, and it is hard to tell where reality ends and fantasy begins.
Cathrine Raben Davidsen (b. 1972) is educated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2003. She has studied art at Instituto Lorenzo de´ Medici, Florence, and at Vrije Akademie, The Hague. She has exhibited widely across Denmark and mainly works in painting, graphics, drawing and ceramics. Cathrine Raben Davidsen often finds inspiration from themes and motifs from the masters of Art History and actualizes these in a modern context. Horsens Art Museum has known Cathrine Raben Davidsen since 2003 and today the artist’s works plays an important role in the museum’s collections.
