When You Hover, You Lift Us All by Lea Guldditte Hestelund

When You Hover, You Lift Us All comes into being through a new collaboration between Lea Guldditte Hestelund, Horsens Art Museum, and KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art.

When You Hover, You Lift Us All unfolds as both a physical and textual narrative across several exhibition spaces. Groups of sculptures represent objects and states from private, public, and semi-public environments, and visitors encounter, among other settings, the municipality, the home, and the school.

The sculptures grow on and emerge from furniture and interior elements. They embody stories, particular emotions, accounts, or observations from the places to which they once belonged—or perhaps still belong. Each room features a distinct, staged lighting design that supports the narratives and atmospheres of the works. The text appears both as a complete collection of poems at the beginning of the exhibition and in fragmented form throughout the exhibition journey.

Both the exhibition and the text originate from a personal story about being the parent of a neurodivergent child and a citizen within a broken system. They are an ode to the unconventional and a critique of an impoverished welfare system.

When You Hover, You Lift Us All is the artist’s tribute to those who fall outside the norm; to the magical, to madness, and to lives that neither can nor should be lived according to other people’s terms.

The exhibition has been generously supported by: Ny Carlsbergfondet, Insero Horsens, Teutons Mindelegat, Statens Kunstfond and Knud Højgaards Fond.
