The Outside Crawls In by Nina Nowak
The Outside Crawls In – a solo exhibition by Nina Nowak (b.1984) which will open in the fall of 2026 at Horsens Art Museum.
THEMES AND BACKGROUND
The solo exhibition will spread across the museum’s ground floor to the first floor and will include a large installation, drawings and sculptures. The exhibition’s theme is how our perception of space has changed in recent years.
In a time marked by the climate crisis, global struggle for resources and pandemics, the exhibition revolves around the borderland between the staged space – in this case the museum’s white institutional white space – and what happens when the outsider intrudes? Specifically, Nina Nowak asks the question: What happens if the stage expands, and the illusion of observing in a safe and separate space dissolves, and larger external factors become the protagonists? The exhibition explores these questions through installations and objects.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Nina Nowak’s artistic practice stems from a bodily and material-based investigation of the human relationship to technology, nature and infrastructure. Her works revolve around themes such as transformation, loss of control and the interplay between the organic and the mechanical. She often incorporates elements such as water, movement and pressure to activate materials and create works that slowly change form and character over time. Nina Nowak’s approach challenges classic notions of the static work of art and instead invites reflection on the vulnerability of the body in a world characterized by technological progress and climate change.
The exhibition is generously supported by: Ny Carlsbergfondet.
