In the Clouds by Arvida Byström

In the fall of 2025, Horsens Art Museum will present the exhibition In the Clouds by Swedish artist Arvida Byström (b. 1991).

In this exhibition, Arvida Byström will focus on AI, zooming in on why artificial intelligence services like Siri and Alexa are personified as women. In the Clouds is a further development of her previous work A Dolls House, culminating in a larger installation with video and large prints, where the artist interacts with the sex doll Harmony, which Byström has also used in performance contexts.

In her artistic universe, she often combines hyper-feminine, pink aesthetics with a raw and unsweetened artistic expression. This is reflected in the exhibition by her blending selfies taken on an iPhone with delicate silk ribbons printed on coarse canvas. The exhibition, taking place in the museum’s largest gallery, will envelop the audience in a mix of staged self-portraits, small tableaus tucked away in corners behind velvet curtains, and installations of holograms created with LED lights, accompanied by sound installations.

In Arvida Byström’s artistic practice, she exposes her own body and gender as capital, which she takes ownership of. Her work moves in the tension between pornography and art, with her provocative selfies and sex-positive self-representation.

The exhibition is generously supported by the Ny Carlsbergfondet, The Danish Arts Foundation and Hoffmann & Husmans Fond.
