Erik A. Frandsen

Horsens Art Museum is planning a large solo exhibition with new works by Erik A. Frandsen in early 2026.

Erik A. Frandsen is an extremely central artist in Horsens Art Museum’s collections, where we have followed the artist’s work over the past 40 years, both in terms of collection and exhibition history.

The exhibition is based on Erik A. Frandsen’s temporary works with large formats, and this exhibition will exclusively present large-scale paintings. The paintings, which measure up to 10 x 4 meters, have conceptual references to monumental painting of earlier times. A crucial difference will be that it is not the large themes or events that will be experienced in the paintings, but the works will be interpretations of the domestic sphere and moods from the artist’s own life and home. The starting point for the paintings is an investigation of what happens to the motif and the painting when the format grows beyond the usual.

With the works, Erik A. Frandsen continues to work with the core of his artistic practice; photography, which as a documentation of the life lived here is enlarged, distorted and interpreted in monumental paintings. Erik A. Frandsen’s upcoming solo exhibition at Horsens Art Museum is a concrete manifestation of a continuing active and developing artistic process.
